The BIPOC Michelin Guide — Born in 2023, Tulum, Mexico
Origin. Purpose. Reclamation.
Where It Started — The Heart of a Village
Every great movement begins in a kitchen. Ours began in the kitchens that raised us — scented with curry, thyme, and fire. In 2023, that spirit found a home in Tulum, Mexico — where Villa Kitchen was born. Tulum became more than a place; it became a symbol. A crossroads where the Caribbean met the ancient, where global travelers and Indigenous artisans spoke the same language of hospitality. Here, the vision took root: to turn heritage into hospitality, and community into luxury.
The Problem — When Flavor Was Stolen
We watched as our flavors — jerk, jollof, curry, sofrito, fry bread — appeared on fine-dining
menus across the world, stripped of their stories. Our grandmothers’ recipes became trends, our ingredients became props, and the people who birthed them were erased. So we made a decision: If the culinary world could borrow our flavor, we could reclaim the narrative.
If Michelin had stars, we’d build constellations — a new system of excellence rooted in
community, culture, and craft.
The Solution — Building the Villa Kitchen Collective
Villa Kitchen became a living ecosystem of chefs, hosts, farmers, and guests — a network designed to restore balance through flavor and belonging. Through our SEASONED Tasting Series, we flipped fine dining’s old hierarchy:
- The community decides who rises.
- Chefs cook for their people, not for critics.
- Every plate becomes a passport to purpose.
Those who earn the community’s trust become Villa Kitchen Certified, earning a seat at the
table of global recognition — The BIPOC version of the Michelin Guide.

From Taste to Transformation
Every ticket sold and every seat filled fuels Indigenous and local community initiatives in the
regions where we serve.
We begin where we were born — Tulum, Mexico — investing in:
- Indigenous and rural food producers
- Cultural preservation and culinary apprenticeships
- Sustainable agriculture and regenerative farming
Because every meal should feed more than a guest — it should feed a future.
Luxury with Lineage
Villa Kitchen redefines luxury — measuring it not by price or polish, but by provenance.
Our ecosystem connects:
- Chefs, trained and certified, ready to serve their communities with both luxury and love.
- Hosts, opening their homes and venues for community tastings.
- Farms, cultivating ingredients rooted in heritage and sustainability.
- Guests, investing in culture by dining with purpose.
This isn’t hospitality as transaction.
It’s hospitality as healing.
The Vision — The BIPOC Michelin Guide
Michelin told the world what excellence looks like. We’re showing the world what excellence feels like. The BIPOC Michelin Guide is not a book — it’s a movement. A digital and physical registry of soulful chefs and experiences spanning Oakland to Accra, Tulum to Toronto.
Curated not by institutions, but by the people who know flavor best — the community.
Impact Through Experience
Villa Kitchen lives at the intersection of food, travel, and technology:
- Villa Kitchen App — connecting guests, chefs, and farms.
- Villa Key Concierge — luxury Airbnb dining and chef bookings.
- SEASONED Series — chef development and community tastings.
- The BIPOC Michelin Guide — global storytelling, certification, and cultural excellence.
Every revenue stream — from events to memberships to partnerships — is reinvested into chef
development, Indigenous-led initiatives, and food sovereignty programs.
Legacy — A Movement Rooted in Flavor
We didn’t set out to build a restaurant. We set out to build a renaissance. Villa Kitchen proves that food can be both business and belonging, both art and activism. We are rewriting the fine-dining narrative — one plate, one chef, one village at a time.
